Clear Aligners in scripps ranch

What Are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners like SureSmile and Invisalign use retainer-like plastic “aligners” to shift your teeth as an alternative to braces. These plastic aligners or “trays” exert gentle, even pressure on your teeth, shifting them to a healthier position over time. This results in a straighter smile and a better bite. The Benefits

Of Clear Aligners

Clear aligners do not impact your appearance or speech, allowing you to straighten your smile using a more subtle treatment. They can also be removed to eat, so there are no dietary restrictions.

Since they’re removable, this also makes it easier to brush and floss, which keeps your teeth and gums healthy. Clear aligners are also more comfortable than braces, since there are no sharp metal components that could poke your gums, cheeks, or tongue. Have questions about the benefits of clear aligners? Wondering what to expect from the clear aligner treatment process? Here’s a quick overview of the basics:

Consultation & Treatment Planning

To begin, Dr. Gupta or Dr. Tony will need to perform an orthodontic exam to see if you’re a good candidate for clear aligners. If you’re approved, they will take images and x-rays of your mouth, and they will work with Invisalign or SureSmile to build your treatment plan and your first few sets of aligners. You’ll come back to pick up your aligners in a few weeks.

Receiving & Wearing Your First Set of Aligners

Once you get your aligners, Dr. Tony or Dr. Gupta will provide you with instructions on how to wear your aligners and how to care for them and your smile during treatment. Then, you’ll follow their instructions and wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day, swapping to a new set about every 2 weeks or as instructed by the team at Scripps Rock Dental.

Return Visits & Checkups

You’ll need to come back every 4-6 weeks for a quick checkup. At this time, Dr. Gupta or Dr. Tony will also give you your next few sets of aligners. This basic process will be repeated until your treatment is over, which usually takes about a year.

Am I a Good Candidate for Clear Aligner Therapy?

Wondering if clear aligner therapy with Invisalign or SureSmile is right for you? Here are a few factors that may determine your eligibility.

Extent of Orthodontic Issues

Invisalign and SureSmile cannot treat extremely severe issues with your jaw and bite alignment. With a consultation at Scripps Rock Dental, you can find out if your orthodontic problems can be treated with clear aligner therapy.

Overall Oral Health

You must have healthy teeth free of decay and gum disease to get clear aligner therapy, so a checkup will be needed to make sure your mouth is healthy.

Your Age

Clear aligners are often more effective for older teens and adults. This is because older, more mature individuals are more likely to wear their aligners consistently for 20-22+ hours per day. Younger teens may be better off with traditional braces.
